About

About the lab

Vision

Conduct fundamental research in systems, controls, and networks — and enable applications using control systems perspectives. Develop and bridge systems and control theory with basic sciences, in particular physics and biology at the small scale. Enable solutions to grand challenges facing humankind, with a current focus on sustainable energy.

The lab spans five distinct programs — sustainable energy and power systems, nanoscience and instrumentation, single-molecule and cellular biophysics, machine learning and data-driven methods, and the theoretical foundations that supply the methodology across all of them. Each program is a serious research effort with its own students, publications, and funding, and they share a common commitment to rigorous methods that carry provable guarantees.
